Scheduling: I take signings evenings and weekends. If your borrower needs a weekday daytime table, ask. It's sometimes possible, but I'd rather tell you up front than tie up an order.
For borrowers
If your lender or title company booked me, here's the short version of what to expect.
A closing package runs 80 to 150 pages and a normal signing takes45 minutes to an hour. I'll point out the ones that matter most, the note, the deed of trust and the closing disclosure, and give you time to read anything you want to read.
What I can't do is explain terms or advise you. If a number looks wrong or a term surprises you, stop and call your loan officer. That isn't an inconvenience, it's the whole point of signing somewhere you can still ask.
Have ready
- Photo ID for every person on the loan, current or issued within the past five years
- Any cashier's check your closer asked you to bring
- All signers present at the same time
